Able Seaman Frederick Pullen,HMS Actaeon, Service No. J/388, secured his place in aviation history by being the first 'ground crew' casualty-he was pulling the chocks away from a Short bi-plane piloted by Lieutenant Reginald Gregory when he was struck by the propellor and killed. He was 20. Contrary to the date on the headstone, the accident happened on 29th March. He was buried with full military honours on 2nd April 1912.
